EXPLORE FIDIWEST LUXURY BUILDINGS

Join us as we review five of FIDIWEST’s most iconic luxury residential buildings and communities: 1 West Street, 20 West Street, 50 West Street, 75 West Street, and 90 West Street. Delve into a visual and architectural journey of how these buildings and communities come to define the iconic drive in FIDIWEST.

1 West Street is the southernmost residential tower on Manhattan Island, known historically as the Whitehall Building. Built in 1904 and designed by Henry J. Hardenbergh, it originally served as a commercial building during the rise of the New York Harbor as a key port. The building was converted into luxury residences known today as Ocean Apartments. The structure still features Beaux-Arts detailing, oversized windows, and commanding views of the harbor and Statue of Liberty.

20 WEST STREET The Downtown Club

Known as The Downtown Club, 20 West Street was built in 1930 as a private athletic and social club. Its distinctive Art Deco design and architectural symmetry helped it earn landmark status. It now functions as a full-service residential condominium offering luxury apartments with high ceilings, historic charm, and views of Battery Park.

A newer addition to the Financial District skyline, 50 West Street is a modern 64-story glass tower designed by Helmut Jahn. Completed in 2017, it features luxury condominiums with floor-to-ceiling windows, state-of-the-art amenities, and panoramic views of New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. The building is a beacon of modern architecture and luxury living in the district.

75 WEST STREET – THE POST TOWERS

75 West Street, now known as The Post Towers, is steeped in both architectural and cultural history. Originally constructed in 1926, it served as the United States Post Office Building and later housed various government and administrative offices. The building was redeveloped in the early 2000s into a high-end rental community featuring luxury finishes, a 24-hour doorman, fitness amenities, and sweeping waterfront views.

Its limestone façade and ornate cornices harken back to its prewar legacy, while its current form as The Post Towers represents the ongoing revitalization and reimagining of FiDi’s west side. Positioned near Battery Park and the Hudson River Promenade, it draws professionals and families seeking a balance of tranquility and urban convenience.

90 WEST STREET

A resilient icon, 90 West Street is a Gothic Revival masterpiece designed by Cass Gilbert in 1907. Severely damaged during the 9/11 attacks, it was restored and converted into luxury apartments. Its terra cotta detailing and dramatic arches remain a proud example of New York’s architectural legacy. Today, 90 West stands as a symbol of resilience and reinvention in the heart of FIDIWEST.
