The Grand Prix Top Ten
From Le Mans to Liberty — A Celebration of Speed, Legacy & Stars
The Grand Prix — a term steeped in history and adrenaline — has evolved from a test of engineering and endurance on country roads to a global phenomenon watched by millions. Today’s Formula 1 champions inherit more than a title; they carry a legacy that began over a century ago.
Where It All Began
The first official Grand Prix was held on June 26, 1906, near Le Mans, France, organized by the Automobile Club de France. The event featured a two-day, 768-mile circuit run on public roads — a grueling feat that crowned Ferenc Szisz and his Renault the victors.
As the popularity of racing grew, other nations launched their own Grand Prix events. The most glamorous of these, the Monaco Grand Prix, debuted in 1929, challenging drivers with hairpin turns and narrow streets amid Monte Carlo’s opulence.
Following World War II, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) unified the sport under a new banner: Formula One. The inaugural F1 World Championship was held in 1950 at Silverstone, England — the beginning of a modern motorsport era defined by technical innovation and global competition.
